Welcome to UNL's Utility Usage Information Portal

The University of Nebraska - Lincoln (UNL) Utility Usage Information Portal is a window into the actual monthly utility usage of buildings at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. We hope that ready access to current utility bill data and usage trends will allow campus leaders to take a proactive role in managing utility usage in the buildings for which they have responsibility. Note that this site is still under development. Some of the presentation is a little rough because our emphasis has been on getting all the pieces to work together smoothly instead of the actual data presentation.

Background Information

Most UNL buildings get their electricity, steam (heating) and chilled water (cooling) from one of the campus utility plants. This data may be read manually every month, or collected hourly by our Energy Management and Control System (EMCS) and then totalled for the month.

Some buildings, particularly around the periphery of the campus, receive a monthly electric and/or natural gas bill from a municipal utility provider (Lincoln Electric System or Aquila Natural Gas). Water is generally billed by the municipal provider on City Campus and through the utility plant on East Campus. Data for all muncipal utilities is currently entered manually by the Business and Finance accounting department.

Using the Portal

After clicking the "Current Utility Usage Data" link on the left navigation colum, you will be presented with a list of campus buildings and their associated acronyms. The columns for the various utilities indicate how the utility is billed to that building group (or if the utility is present at all). Further information and instructions are presented on subsequent pages.
